Google's philanthropic-arm is making more than $26 million in new grants and investments in organizations and companies devoted to causes that the Internet search leader believes will help make the world a better place.

It announced five-initiatives that it will focus on.

Predict and Prevent will seek to identify hot spots and enable rapid response to emerging threats, beginning in the area of infectious diseases.
